Your job as the parent is so important and crucial in order for your child to be successful and fulfill their dreams. After being in the classroom and teaching students in Kindergarten and First grade over these past 6 years, I have found that children are coming to school without the skills and knowledge-base that needs to be established before entering Kindergarten. It is not that the parents didn't want to help their child. It was that they just did not know how, and by conferencing with the parents and guiding them on what skills need to be taught in the home, their children were able to make great gains! Parents have such an important role in their child's life and we as educators need to create a way for parents to access this knowledge for preparing their child with a readiness to learn. Believe me when I say, I appreciate and applaud the hard work parents do for their child and am so excited when students make huge gains during the school year due in part to their parent's support or even entering the classroom with a huge head start in academics!
